Meeting deadlines

Well another month has passed and it is getting closer to the end of the year.

What a frightening thought? Time is passing us by faster and faster by the day.

We are to blame for time passing us by. We are constantly rushing of to meetings. Trying to meet tight deadlines.

If only we take time out to stop and smell the roses. We are working our lives away and for what. The little pennies at the end of the month that barely gets us through the month.

Like everybody else we only want the best for our family and ourselves so we try every scheme out there to make a little extra income on the side.

It is not easy though. I am trying to find freelance projects but finding the right connections isn't always easy. I have signed up to quite a few networking websites but still found nothing.

How do you go about getting that extra pennies?

Job hunting

It is not always easy to job hunt, especially during a recession. Companies are all cutting down on expenses and trying to save where they can.

I recently discovered that it is extremely difficult to go out there to find alternative employment opportunities especially if you have been employed at the same company for the past eight years (yes, eight years).

When I first joined the company I were so excited. I walked in thinking that it was a personal assistant position that I would be filling (temporary assignments, no control) and bam it was something totally different. I was in a graphic design studio. Wow. This is amazing. I always wondered about graphic design.

When I was given the opportunity to be employed permanently I grabbed it. I then persued getting the opportunity to work as a designer myself. I completed a Principles and Practice of Graphic Design course at Vega School of Branding and some software courses. Slowly I was given small projects that expanded. But it hasn't expanded enough.

I discovered that there is only so much you can do when you are employed by a corporate company. You have to comply to corporate identity manuals which limits your creativity. This is when I though, wait maybe I should try to do some freelance work after hours, but it isn't so easy to find clients.

Well I only just began. Time will tell.

The unknown

As I am new to freelancing, I have to find ways in to market my skills, and I turned to the Internet for this.

I have tried various websites so far. Recently a friend has contacted me with regards to a project she has been asked to oversee.

It involves designing a corporate identity for an insurance company.

So far I have presented my first attempt at the logo design. They liked all three options but leaned more to my last option that I presented.

I was then requested to bring in yellow into the logo design and a shape maybe a square. Because they preferred the last option I decided to tweak this option and give three variables.

Now, I wait for the decision to be made.

Please let me know what do you think?
