Job hunting

It is not always easy to job hunt, especially during a recession. Companies are all cutting down on expenses and trying to save where they can.

I recently discovered that it is extremely difficult to go out there to find alternative employment opportunities especially if you have been employed at the same company for the past eight years (yes, eight years).

When I first joined the company I were so excited. I walked in thinking that it was a personal assistant position that I would be filling (temporary assignments, no control) and bam it was something totally different. I was in a graphic design studio. Wow. This is amazing. I always wondered about graphic design.

When I was given the opportunity to be employed permanently I grabbed it. I then persued getting the opportunity to work as a designer myself. I completed a Principles and Practice of Graphic Design course at Vega School of Branding and some software courses. Slowly I was given small projects that expanded. But it hasn't expanded enough.

I discovered that there is only so much you can do when you are employed by a corporate company. You have to comply to corporate identity manuals which limits your creativity. This is when I though, wait maybe I should try to do some freelance work after hours, but it isn't so easy to find clients.

Well I only just began. Time will tell.
